Code of Conduct

Our Pledge

We as members, contributors, and leaders pledge to make participation in the GripDay community a harassment-free experience for everyone, regardless of age, body size, visible or invisible disability, ethnicity, sex characteristics, gender identity and expression, level of experience, education, socio-economic status, nationality, personal appearance, race, caste, color, religion, or sexual identity and orientation.

We pledge to act and interact in ways that contribute to an open, welcoming, diverse, inclusive, and healthy community.

Our Standards

Examples of behavior that contributes to a positive environment for our community include:

  • Being Respectful: Treating all community members with respect and kindness
  • Being Inclusive: Welcoming people of all backgrounds and experience levels
  • Being Collaborative: Working together constructively and sharing knowledge
  • Being Professional: Maintaining professional communication in all interactions
  • Being Constructive: Providing helpful feedback and suggestions
  • Being Patient: Understanding that people have different learning curves and perspectives
  • Being Supportive: Helping others succeed and grow in the community

❌ Unacceptable Behaviors

  • Harassment: Any form of harassment, intimidation, or unwelcome behavior
  • Discrimination: Discriminatory language or actions based on personal characteristics
  • Trolling: Deliberately inflammatory, insulting, or derogatory comments
  • Personal Attacks: Attacking individuals rather than addressing ideas or issues
  • Doxxing: Publishing private information without explicit permission
  • Spam: Excessive self-promotion or off-topic content
  • Inappropriate Content: Sexual, violent, or otherwise inappropriate material

Enforcement Responsibilities

Community leaders are responsible for clarifying and enforcing our standards of acceptable behavior and will take appropriate and fair corrective action in response to any behavior that they deem inappropriate, threatening, offensive, or harmful.

Community leaders have the right and responsibility to remove, edit, or reject comments, commits, code, wiki edits, issues, and other contributions that are not aligned to this Code of Conduct, and will communicate reasons for moderation decisions when appropriate.

Scope

This Code of Conduct applies within all community spaces, and also applies when an individual is officially representing the community in public spaces. Examples of representing our community include using an official e-mail address, posting via an official social media account, or acting as an appointed representative at an online or offline event.

Community Spaces Include

  • GitHub Repositories: Issues, pull requests, discussions, and code reviews
  • Discord Server: All channels and direct messages within the server
  • Community Forums: Any official GripDay community forums or discussion boards
  • Social Media: Official GripDay social media accounts and related discussions
  • Events: Conferences, meetups, workshops, and other community events
  • Documentation: Wiki pages, documentation sites, and collaborative editing spaces

Enforcement

Instances of abusive, harassing, or otherwise unacceptable behavior may be reported to the community leaders responsible for enforcement at conduct@gripday.com. All complaints will be reviewed and investigated promptly and fairly.

All community leaders are obligated to respect the privacy and security of the reporter of any incident.

Reporting Guidelines

When reporting an incident, please include:

  1. Your Contact Information: So we can follow up with you
  2. Names of Individuals Involved: Including witnesses, if any
  3. Description of Incident: What happened, when, and where
  4. Supporting Evidence: Screenshots, links, or other relevant information
  5. Impact: How the incident affected you or others
  6. Desired Outcome: What resolution you're seeking

What to Expect

  • Acknowledgment: We will acknowledge receipt of your report within 24 hours
  • Investigation: We will investigate the matter thoroughly and fairly
  • Communication: We will keep you informed of our progress and decisions
  • Confidentiality: We will maintain confidentiality to the extent possible
  • Action: We will take appropriate action based on our findings

Enforcement Guidelines

Community leaders will follow these Community Impact Guidelines in determining the consequences for any action they deem in violation of this Code of Conduct:

1. Correction

Community Impact: Use of inappropriate language or other behavior deemed unprofessional or unwelcome in the community.

Consequence: A private, written warning from community leaders, providing clarity around the nature of the violation and an explanation of why the behavior was inappropriate. A public apology may be requested.

2. Warning

Community Impact: A violation through a single incident or series of actions.

Consequence: A warning with consequences for continued behavior. No interaction with the people involved, including unsolicited interaction with those enforcing the Code of Conduct, for a specified period of time. This includes avoiding interactions in community spaces as well as external channels like social media. Violating these terms may lead to a temporary or permanent ban.

3. Temporary Ban

Community Impact: A serious violation of community standards, including sustained inappropriate behavior.

Consequence: A temporary ban from any sort of interaction or public communication with the community for a specified period of time. No public or private interaction with the people involved, including unsolicited interaction with those enforcing the Code of Conduct, is allowed during this period. Violating these terms may lead to a permanent ban.

4. Permanent Ban

Community Impact: Demonstrating a pattern of violation of community standards, including sustained inappropriate behavior, harassment of an individual, or aggression toward or disparagement of classes of individuals.

Consequence: A permanent ban from any sort of public interaction within the community.

Appeals Process

If you believe you have been unfairly penalized, you may appeal the decision by:

  1. Contacting the Appeals Committee: Send an email to appeals@gripday.com
  2. Providing Context: Explain why you believe the decision was unfair
  3. Supporting Evidence: Include any relevant information or evidence
  4. Requesting Review: Ask for a review of the original decision

Appeals will be reviewed by a different set of community leaders than those who made the original decision.

  • Project Maintainers: Core team members with commit access
  • Community Moderators: Volunteers who help moderate discussions
  • Code of Conduct Committee: Dedicated team for handling conduct issues

Becoming a Community Leader

Community leadership positions are earned through:

  • Consistent Contributions: Regular, high-quality contributions to the project
  • Positive Community Engagement: Helping others and fostering a welcoming environment
  • Demonstrated Judgment: Showing good judgment in technical and community matters
  • Commitment: Willingness to dedicate time to community responsibilities

Diversity and Inclusion

We are committed to creating a diverse and inclusive community where everyone feels welcome and valued. We actively encourage participation from:

  • People of All Backgrounds: Regardless of race, ethnicity, nationality, or cultural background
  • All Gender Identities: Including but not limited to women, men, non-binary, and transgender individuals
  • All Experience Levels: From beginners to experts, students to professionals
  • All Ages: Young professionals, career changers, and experienced developers
  • People with Disabilities: We strive to make our community accessible to everyone

Inclusive Language

We encourage the use of inclusive language that:

  • Avoids Assumptions: Don't assume gender, background, or experience level
  • Uses Welcoming Terms: Choose words that make everyone feel included
  • Respects Pronouns: Use people's preferred pronouns when known
  • Avoids Jargon: Explain technical terms for newcomers
  • Is Culturally Sensitive: Be aware of cultural differences and sensitivities

Conflict Resolution

When conflicts arise, we encourage:

Direct Communication

  • Talk Directly: Try to resolve issues through respectful direct communication
  • Assume Good Intent: Give others the benefit of the doubt
  • Focus on Issues: Address the problem, not the person
  • Seek Understanding: Try to understand different perspectives

Mediation

  • Request Help: Ask community leaders to mediate if direct communication fails
  • Be Open: Be willing to listen and compromise
  • Stay Professional: Maintain professionalism throughout the process
  • Follow Through: Commit to agreed-upon solutions
